When i was talking to my mother she explained how she goes about approaching food. She said that she mainly looks at food from a nutritional stand point the main reason why is because my mother is a school food manager and a dietician. She also pays a lot of attention to how appealing the food is and has a culinary point of view on what she eats and feeds her kids. she believes in making all different types of food from different cultures. since she loves to cook that also has to do with how she approaches food, because my mother went to school to be in the school food industry she knows whats good to eat and what is not good to eat.
My mothers parents did not see food from a nutritional stand point, they only made jamaican cuisine. they only made what they knew how to make and did not try to make anything new. their main focus was to make sure you were well feed and not hungry to make sure that you got breakfast, lunch and diner. The main goal was to make sure the food taste good.
The difference between generation food ways has to mainly do with the fact that my mother went to college to major in nutrition so she could become a dietician. My mother also is a vegetarian and only eats and drinks organic products. Back in Jamaica that was not the focus with my mothers parents, and since they were not in america were you are exposed to so many different cultures of food they were stuck with what they had. I believe the main difference is time and location. The reason I say time is because since my grandparents were born back in the day when eating healthy was the thing that everybody was doing they didn't know a lot about what food is good or bad. Location is also a big part because they were born and raised in jamaica where they mostly only eat jamaican food, so they are not use to trying new food that is beneficial to their health.
